Artifacts are where Genshin Impact’s progression gets genuinely open-ended. There’s no hard cap on how good one can be, which means it’s also where Resin disappears the fastest for the least visible progress. If you’re still getting a handle on how Resin actually works, start there first. A little bit of prioritization here goes a long way toward not burning weeks of Resin on a set you’ll replace anyway.

Main stats matter more than substats, and they’re not random by slot

Every artifact has one fixed main stat per slot: the Flower and Feather slots always roll HP and ATK respectively, while the Sands, Goblet and Circlet slots can roll from a pool of options. Before you farm a domain at all, decide which Sands/Goblet/Circlet main stats your build actually needs: Energy Recharge or ATK% on Sands, an elemental damage bonus or ATK% on Goblet, and Crit Rate/Crit DMG or ATK% on Circlet are the usual useful combinations. Farming without a main-stat target in mind is the single biggest source of wasted Resin.

A “good enough” artifact beats a perfect one that never drops

Chasing a 5-star artifact with ideal main stat and perfectly-rolled Crit substats is a long-tail goal, not a starting requirement. A 4-star or unoptimized 5-star with the right main stat and at least one useful substat is enough to make most content clearable. Swap it out later when something better drops, rather than refusing to equip anything below your ideal.

Prioritize the set your main damage dealer actually needs first

Artifact set bonuses (2-piece and 4-piece effects) are usually build-defining for whichever character does the most damage in your comp. Farm that set and that domain first, rather than spreading Resin evenly across multiple characters’ ideal sets at once. Support and sub-DPS characters can usually run more flexible or off-set artifacts for longer without it costing you much.

Use your daily Resin on the same domain until you’ve actually got what you need

Rotating between multiple artifact domains each day feels productive but usually just delays getting a full set for anyone. Committing your Resin to one target domain until your main carry has a workable set, then moving to the next character’s priority, tends to produce usable results faster than spreading thin.

The details that save Resin

  • The five pieces. A character equips one of each: Flower of Life, Plume of Death, Sands of Eon, Goblet of Eonothem and Circlet of Logos. Each piece has one main stat and up to four substats.
  • What a run costs. An artifact domain run costs 20 Original Resin, or 40 (or one Condensed Resin) for double rewards. Condensed Resin is crafted from 60 Original Resin, and you can hold up to five, which is a useful way to bank Resin before it hits the cap.
  • Let the game filter for you. In the artifact menus, “Recommended Affixes” shows the suggested main stat for the current character and piece, and lock settings can automatically lock new pieces with the main stats you choose, so good drops don’t get fed away by accident.

A practical farming order

  1. Decide your main damage dealer’s required main stats before you farm anything.
  2. Farm that character’s priority domain daily until they have a workable set, not a perfect one.
  3. Move to your next-priority character’s domain once the first is “good enough.”
  4. Revisit and upgrade earlier artifacts opportunistically, not as your main Resin sink.

Artifact optimization is genuinely endless in Genshin Impact. The goal isn’t to finish it, but to stop when your team can clear the content you’re actually trying to clear, whether that’s the open world or something tougher like the Spiral Abyss. If you haven’t settled on what that team actually is yet, our team-building guide is the place to start.
